Hashima Island

Hashima Island was populated from 1887 to 1974 as a coal mining facility. Over the last few decades, it has been slowly rotting away. As the building slowly fall apart, the island has taken on the look of a zombie movie. More recently, it has become the inspiration of artists and authors. Travel to Hashima was re-opened on April 22, 2009 after more than 20 years of closure. Below is a short short documentary put together by the History Channel about this fascinating island. I would love to visit it someday and take pictures. Who is coming with me?

... Of Spare Ass Annie

When I became captain of the town, I decided to extend asylum to certain citizens who were persona non grata elsewhere in the area because of their disgusting and disquieting deformities. One was known as Spare Ass Annie. She had an auxiliary asshole in the middle of her forehead like a baneful bronze eye.

Another was a scorpion from the neck down. He had retained the human attribute of voice, and was given to revolting paroxysms of self-pity and self-disgust during which he threatened to kill himself by a sting in the back of his neck. He never threatened anyone else, though his sting would have caused instant death.

These Heroics

If I had a shining head
and people turned to stare at me
in the street cars;
and I could stretch my body
through the bright water
and keep abreast of fish and water snakes;
if I could ruin my feathers
in flight before the sun;
do you think that I would remain in this room,
reciting poems to you,
and making outrageous dreams
with the smallest movements of your mouth?

She Sleeps in Oz...

I'm Your Man

If you want a lover
I'll do anything you ask me to
And if you want another kind of love
I'll wear a mask for you
If you want a partner
Take my hand
Or if you want to strike me down in anger
Here I stand
I'm your man

If you want a boxer
I will step into the ring for you
And if you want a doctor
I'll examine every inch of you
If you want a driver
Climb inside
Or if you want to take me for a ride
You know you can
I'm your man

Ah, the moons too bright
The chains too tight
The beast wont go to sleep
I've been running through these promises to you
That I made and I could not keep

Ah, but a man never got a woman back
Not by begging on his knees
Or Id crawl to you baby
And I'd fall at your feet
And I'd howl at your beauty
Like a dog in heat
And I'd claw at your heart
And I'd tear at your sheet
I'd say please, please
I'm your man

And if you've got to sleep
A moment on the road
I will steer for you
And if you want to work the street alone
I'll disappear for you
If you want a father for your child
Or only want to walk with me a while
Across the sand
I'm your man

If you want a lover
I'll do anything you ask me to
And if you want another kind of love
I'll wear a mask for you

I can't find my way home...

Never To Be Lukewarm

People always tell me how happy I could be,
I'm never gonna find out.
A house in the burbs and a bitchin' SUV,
Is how I'm never gonna wind up.
I didn't know Lennon or King or Kennedy,
But i know one thing, you gotta know yr enemies.
People always tell me how happy I could be,
I'm never gonna find out.
I'm never gonna find out.

Better to suffer it than live under it.
I'm never gonna be just fine, no way.
I'm never gonna be that guy,
I'm never gonna be just fine,
But there are times i need you to remind me.
I'm never gonna be that guy.
I'm never gonna be just fine.
I never wanna say that my best days are behind me.
I never want to be lukewarm again.

If being frightened means that I'll always be aware,
I'm always gonna be scared.
Everybody's got a way of working out the world,
like E is M and C squared
There's Buddha and Mohammad and JC and all them,
and I'm ivri (Baruch ata HaShem).
Everybody's got a way of working out the world,
I'm never gonna find out.
I'm never gonna find out.

There is a summer, its all the time, for every one of us.
There is a summer, its all the time, for every one of us.
There is a summer, its all the time, for every one of us.
There is a summer, its all the time, for every one of us.

I'm never gonna be that guy,
I'm never gonna be just fine,
but there are times I need you to remind me,
I'm never gonna be that guy
I'm never gonna be just fine.
I never wanna say my best days are behind me.
I never wanna say my best days are behind me.
I never wanna say my best days are behind me.
I never wanna be lukewarm again.

It Won't Rain All The Time, will it...?

We walked the narrow path beneath the smoking skies.
Sometimes you can barely tell the difference
between darkness and light.
Do you have faith in what we believe?
The truest test is when we cannot when we cannot see.

I hear pounding feet in the in the streets below,
and the women crying and the,
and the children know that there,
that there's something wrong,
and it's hard to believe that love will prevail.

Oh it won't rain all the time.
The sky won't fall forever.
And though the night seems long,
Your tears won't fall forever.

Oh, when I'm lonely,
I lie awake at night
and I wish you were here.
I miss you.
Can you tell me is there something more to believe in?
Or is this all there is?

In the pounding feet, in the,
In the streets below, and the,
And the window breaks and,
And a woman falls, there's,
There's something wrong, it's,
It's so hard to believe that love will prevail.

Oh it won't rain all the time.
The sky won't fall forever.
And though the night seems long,
your tears won't fall, your tears won't fall, your tears won't fall
forever.

Last night I had a dream.
You came into my room,
you took me into your arms.
Whispering and kissing me,
and telling me to still believe.
But then the emptiness of a burning sea against which we see
our darkest of sadness.

Until I felt safe and warm.
I fell asleep in your arms.
When I awoke I cried again for you were gone.
Oh, can you hear me?

It won't rain all the time.
The sky won't fall forever.
And though the night seems long,
your tears won't fall forever.
It won't rain all the time
The sky won't fall forever.
And though the night seems long,
your tears won't fall, your tears won't fall,
your tears won't fall
forever.

The Birth of the Summer of Love

This weekend in 1967, the three-day Monterey Pop Festival in California began. The festival saw the first major US appearances by The Who, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Also on the bill: The Byrds, Grateful Dead, Otis Redding, Simon & Garfunkel, The Steve Miller Band, Canned Heat, The Mamas And The Papas, Jefferson Airplane, Buffalo Springfield and The Electric Flag.

John Phillips, of The Mamas and The Papas, would later write ‘San Francisco’ (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair) about the festival.

Tickets cost $3.50–6.50 and all of the proceeds went to charity, because the artists agreed to perform for free.

I would have been there with a flower in my hair along with the other 200,000 people that the festival attracted over the long weekend.

Jim Morrison: The Poet

The Wolf,
Who lives under the rock
has invited me
to drink of his cool Water.

Not to splash or bathe,
But leave the sun
and know the dead desert night
and the cold men who play there.

Present? For me?

The day will come when you will ask yourself, "Self, what do I buy for the boy who seems to have it all?" Well, this is the answer to your question:

If you get this for me, I will drive you everywhere and provide endless amounts of love.

Fresh Start

It has been a while since this blog has been updated. Therefore, I am taking it upon myself to correct this woefully negligent course. As ship's captain, I must "Make it so." Still, I have nothing overly important to say at the moment. Rather, I will present you a picture of what my mental road block looked like (and very well still looks like). At the end of the day, I just liked this picture of a rock in the road. I hope you enjoy it, too.
